I have also added a 'Delete batch' button like there is in the Patron Card Creator.
To test:
1) Go to Tools -> Label creator -> New label batch
2) Add 2 items
3) Select the checkbox next to an item you just added and click 'Remove selected items'
4) A pop-up will say that you are yet to select an item. (Please ignore the mistake in the pop-up message, this is being fixed in Bug 15662)
5) Apply patch and refresh. Confirm there is now a 'Delete batch' button in the toolbar
6) Select one item and click 'Remove selected items'
7) Confirm the item is deleted from the batch
8) Select the final item and click 'Remove selected items'
9) Pop-up message will tell you that deleting this item will delete the batch. Click 'Okay'

4) Check logs, you must find a line with
'ERROR in koha-conf.xml -- missing <font type="COO">'
for example if main font Courier-Oblique
5) Open PDF, title could be right but not using selected font
After patch
6) Apply the patch

Reasoning
Librarians will be doing label things in the following frequencies, from most frequent to least frequent:
1. Creating new label batches - every day/every few days
2. Managing existing label batches - every day/every few days
3. Managing existing label layouts - as needed, infrequent
5. Managing existing label templates - as needed, infrequent
6. Creating new label layouts - as needed, infrequent
7. Creating new label templates - as needed, infrequent
8. Managing existing printer profiles - possibly once only!
9. Creating new printer profiles - possibly once only!
This change to the label creator aims to make the most frequently used items easily accessible at the top of the main area,
reduces clutter on the page, and makes the label creator fall in line with UI paradigms found elsewhere in Koha.
To test:
Open the label creator: More -> Tools -> Label creator
Note that the toolbar has changed. It should be consistent across all of the label creator (it is an include).
+ New menu:
Label batch
1. make sure it looks ok - toolbar buttons are consistent at the top of the main block.
2. add items both by barcode, and by search (note this patch does not touch the pop up window. Another day.)
3. note that the usual buttons have moved below the textarea, and now have icons.
4. delete and export single items using the buttons corresponding to each item
5. select multiple and use the buttons above the table to remove and export selected items
6. export a full batch
7. deduplicate a batch
There should be no regressions in functionality.
Layout
1. This menu item should take you directly to the "Edit layout" screen.
2. no functional changes here.
3. note toolbar at top is consistent
Label template
1. this menu item should take you directly to the "Edit label template" page.
2. no functional changes here.
3. note toolbar at top is consistent.
Printer profile
1. this menu item should take you directly to the "Edit printer profile" page.
2. no functional changes here.
3. note toolbar at top is consistent.
+ Manage menu:
Label batches
1. This menu item should take you directly to the "currently available batches" page.
2. select a batch to edit using the buttons
3. select a batch to delete using the buttons - it should ask for confirm.
4. select several batches using the tickboxes, and select Export selected. Batches should be exported as normal.
5. note toolbar at top is consistent.
Layouts
1. This menu item should take you directly to the "currently available layouts" page.
2. select a layout to edit using the buttons
3. select a layout to delete using the buttons
4. note toolbar at top is consistent.
Label templates
1. This menu item should take you directly to the "currently available templates" page.
2. select a template to edit using the buttons
3. select a template to delete using the buttons
4. note toolbar at top is consistent.
Printer profiles
1. This menu item should take you directly to the "currently available profiles" page.
2. select a profile to edit using the buttons
3. select a profile to delete using the buttons
4. note toolbar at top is consistent
+ General
* note that sidebar now only has "labels home" instead of the full "manage" list. It seemed redundant with the toolbar tidied up.
Please note that I am happy to take suggestions/amendments to these changes.

Currently translating Javascript strings with variables in them is hard,
because the strings are created from separate parts. For example:
_("Are you sure you want to delete the") + " " + count + " " +
_("attached items?")
This is translated in two different parts, and the translator cannot
affect the place where the count-variable is.
Now, if the javascript strings allowed placeholders, similar to how the
template strings do, the above could be written as:
_("Are you sure you want to delete the %s attached
items?").format(count)
This would make translation much easier.
Attached patch adds a Javascript string formatter, and changes all the
concatenated translatable JS strings used in intranet to use that.
To test:
1) cd misc/translator
2) perl translate update xx-YY
3) grep ^msgid po/xx-YY-i-staff-t-prog-v-3006000.po | sort | uniq >

4) apply patch
5) perl translate update xx-YY
6) grep ^msgid po/xx-YY-i-staff-t-prog-v-3006000.po | sort | uniq >
xx-YY-post
7) compare the files: diff -Nurd xx-YY-pre xx-yy-post | less
should show the javascript strings that changed.
8) Test the UIs where the formatted js strings are used.

The label batch manager script hard-codes the table header cell labels
in order to pass them to an HTML-building function. This obviously isn't
the best solution for internationalization, but picking the whole scheme
apart would be very complicated.
Instead this patch uses a SWITCH statement to check for each possible
case and outputs the correct translatable string for each.
To test, apply the patch and run "perl translate update" for any
translation. Check the revised po file and confirm that the new strings
are present. View the label batch edit page and confirm that the table
headings look correct: Tools -> Labels -> Manage batches -> Edit batch.

Out of three conditional cases for display of the <body> tag one lacked
a unique ID. This patch copies the unique ID from the other cases to the
one lacking.
This patch also corrects the case of an "onload" attribute which should
follow XHTML style rules.
To test, the patch for Bug 9618 must be applied. Set the
SpineLabelAutoPrint system preference to "[don't] automatically pop up a
print dialog." Submit a barcode on the quick spine label creator and
view source. The <body> tag should have an ID attribute.

The template for printing a single spine label is a stripped-down
version of a standard Koha template, but it should include
intranetuserjs and IntranetUserCSS so that libraries can make local
customizations.
This patch updates the page's DOCTYPE to HTML5 and adds the missing
markup for including those preferences. Also added is jQuery, since
there's a good chance local customizations are using jQuery.
To test, make sure there is something in your intranetuserjs and
IntranetUserCSS system preferences. Visit
/cgi-bin/koha/labels/spinelabel-home.pl and submit a barcode. View
source on the spine label output page and confirm that your custom js
and css were included correctly.

to the prog theme is hard-coded. To test, apply the patch and view the
following cases:
- When a database update is triggered the login page loads login.css.
This path should be correct. (Reference to wizard.css is removed as
per Bug 10422).
- The course reserves home page should load datatables-related assets
correctly.
- Help pages for the Quick spine label creator and the staff client home
page should show the correct paths where they reference the Koha file
system.
- The web installer pages should correctly load the Koha logo.
- The label creator "manage" pages (layouts, templates, etc.) should
correctly load datatables-related assets.

This patch also consolidates the include file and main template. The

All instances of the old DynArch calendar have been replaced with
jQueryUI versions and the old library files have been removed.
calendar.inc has been modified to include jQueryUI localization
strings and global configuration options. Just add a "datepicker"
class to an input field to trigger a datepicker prompt.
If you would like two fields in one from to limit each other (one
is date from, one is date to), add these classes to each:
"datepickerfrom" and "datepickerto." This will prevent an invalid
entry, e.g. a date in the latter which falls before the former.
jQueryUI is now upgraded to the latest verision, 1.8.21.
Edit: Now with proper translatability, date formatting, first day
of the week handling, and RTL support.

Two issues here:
1. No radio box was selected by default in the format section of the layout editor. This actually needs some additional attention to allow the user
to establish a default method of entering the format string. As noted in comments in the code, this would probably be best implimented by adding yet
another syspref. However, I don't have time atm.
2. On saving a new template, if no profile was assigned to the new template, the script threw an error and died.
Both issues are addressed in this patch.

As discussed with Chris Nighswonger on #koha, this patch
removes the calls to syslog and replaces them with warns
so that error messages generated by the labels code
are sent to the Apache error log. This avoids splitting
this sort of logging across multiple files and is consistent
with current practice in most of the rest of Koha.

[2] (minor) can the print button be excluded from the printout?

It is located in the Tools page as Quick Spine Label Creator.

The pref SpineLabelAutoPrint will make the print dialog pop up automatically.

ive logged a 'bug' for this - 2777

- enables the index-searching functionality
- adds date-ranges
- uses the numSearchResults syspref, not a hardcoded '20'
- rewrote old 2.2 page-num code, (didnt work for 3.x)
- some indent and whitepages tidys.
- unused 2.2 search-code removed.
